C19 times..

We have been in lockdown since mid March. I am on government funded furlough starting this thamizh new year. Still blessed than many others and everyday I think ‘But for the grace of God...’

The young one has been having online classes since mid March. Having been exposed to news about the pandemic as well as talking to her friends who’s parents are doctors, surgeons etc and hence in the front line, something seems to have shifted inside this 10 year old child.

She is still the happy go lucky, dancing singing one..but.. once she gets up, without any prompting, she makes her bed, does 9:Surya namaskars, brushes, takes a shower, changes and comes down with any laundry to be brought downstairs, including ours.

When we are working, she sets out food on a tray and brings it to us by herself.  She loads the washing machine, unloads, loads the dryer, unloads, sorts, folds and outs them all away. (All accompanied by music and dancing of course!).

On Thursdays she soaks the ingredients for idli batter and clears all our plates and soaks them and helps us load the dish washer.

She also makes good omelettes.  All this is  sudden and unprompted which is the surprise. Usually she is so playful that the walls of our house echo with her name, the number of times I have to call her to do things!

Her teachers say she does very well with online classes even better than some older kids. Her singing teacher in fact said that she may be able to skip grade 3 and go straight to grade 4 next!

Most importantly with books and tele time, when I give her a deadline, she shuts them done by herself without any policing required.

Most of this, is I read her correctly, is because she is worried about our well being and this is how she thinks she is able to help us.

She is so sweet and kind that sometimes I feel all the wait for her was completely worth it.

Fingers crossed, we get to see the other side of this c19 safe and sound as a family.
